Good News: Sparks hard-cider maker wins national honors
Local Sparks hard-cider maker Common Cider won the gold and bronze medals at the prestigious New York International Beer Competition. The company also won the coveted “Cider of the Year” award. This competition is unique in that the judges are all members of the trade — buyers from some of the largest retailers in the world, restaurant owners, hotel beverage managers, distributors and importers.
Company founder Fran Toves was thrilled to hear the news.
“I set out to create ciders that were different from anything on the market. I wanted them to be less sweet than the mass market brands, with more nuanced flavor. Most of all, I wanted them to pair well with food.” Toves has a culinary background and is one of just a handful of women creating ciders in the U.S.
